For many parents, the world of education and special needs support can feel confusing and overwhelming. One of the most important tools available to families is an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). These plans are designed to make sure children and young people with additional needs receive the right help in school and beyond.
What is an EHCP? An EHCP is a legal document that sets out a child or young person’s needs and the support required to meet them. Unlike standard school support, it brings together education, health, and social care into one joined-up plan. This means teachers, therapists, and other professionals work together with the family to provide consistent support. Who Can Apply for an EHCP? Any parent, carer, or young person (over 16) can request an EHCP assessment from their local authority. Schools can also make the request. If the child is struggling despite extra help already in place, it may be time to consider an EHCP application. Why an EHCP Matters
How Ashdown Tuition Can Help Navigating the EHCP process can be stressful and time-consuming. At Ashdown Tuition, we guide families through each stage of writing an EHCP – from making the request to ensuring the plan reflects the child’s true needs. We also provide ongoing tuition and support to help children thrive while waiting for, or working within, an EHCP. 👉 If you’d like tailored advice or support visit EHCP Support for Parents Page
